MARKETPLACE SAFEGUARDS

What NameBid does

These safeguards are designed to reduce avoidable risk—not to replace your own due diligence.

Ownership checked

A third-party domain is not published until NameBid has reviewed evidence that the seller controls it.

Email-verified bidding

A bid does not affect the displayed bid count or highest amount until the bidder verifies their email.

Seller clearly identified

Every auction states whether the domain is from the NameBid portfolio or an independent third-party seller.

Clear auction information

Opening bid, verified bid count, reserve status and closing time are displayed together. Hidden reserve amounts are not exposed publicly.

Managed settlement choices

After a successful auction, NameBid connects the verified parties. For higher-value sales, they may agree to use Escrow.com for settlement.

Privacy by design

Seller, bidder and Wanted-request contact details are not displayed publicly. Anonymous analytics do not store full IP addresses.

HOW PAYMENT AND TRANSFER WORK

Use a safe transaction process

  1. Winner confirmed.NameBid emails the highest verified bidder and seller with the domain, price and auction reference.
  2. Choose settlement. The parties may agree direct PayPal or bank-transfer payment. For higher-value sales, they may instead arrange settlement through Escrow.com. Third-party fees remain their responsibility.
  3. Confirm instructions.Do not pay details received unexpectedly or through a different email address. NameBid never asks for passwords or card PINs.
  4. Confirm cleared funds.Sellers should verify payment directly with their payment or escrow provider before transferring the domain.
  5. Complete the transfer.Use the Nominet or registrar process and keep the agreement, payment confirmation and transfer records.

NameBid is not affiliated with or acting as an agent of Escrow.com. Buyer and seller must open and manage the escrow transaction directly and review the provider’s current terms and fees.

What “ownership checked” means

NameBid reviewed evidence of control before publication. Email verification confirms access to an email address; it does not itself verify someone’s identity or ability to pay. It is not a valuation, legal opinion, trademark clearance or guarantee that nobody else has rights in the name.

Report a concern

Pause the transaction and email hello@namebid.co.uk. Include the domain and auction reference so activity can be reviewed.

Complaints

Send the facts and supporting evidence to hello@namebid.co.uk. NameBid will acknowledge and investigate the complaint fairly.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST BID

Buyer questions, answered

Do I pay anything to place a bid?

No payment is collected when you submit a bid. You must verify your email before it counts. A verified winning bid is a commitment to purchase under the auction terms; registering DemandStart interest is not a purchase commitment.

Who is selling the domain?

Each auction shows “NameBid portfolio” or “Third-party seller”. The seller type is not a full identity check. Before paying, confirm the seller’s identity, authority to transfer the domain and written sale details. Ask NameBid about the listing at hello@namebid.co.uk.

Can I use Escrow.com?

Yes, if buyer and seller agree and the transaction is eligible under the provider’s terms. Open and manage the transaction directly with Escrow.com, check its fees and transfer instructions, and agree who pays those fees. NameBid does not hold escrow funds and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting as an agent of Escrow.com.

What will the purchase cost?

The agreed domain price plus any registrar, Nominet, payment-provider or escrow fees agreed between the parties. NameBid currently charges £0 buyer premium and 0% seller commission. A hidden reserve is a minimum sale condition, not an extra charge. “Reserve not met” means the current verified bid has not reached that condition.

Am I buying a website or just the domain?

Read the individual listing. Unless it explicitly includes other assets, the offer is for the domain name only. Do not assume it includes a website, traffic, search rankings, trademarks or future income. Check renewal costs and any restrictions with the registrar.

What happens after I win?

NameBid connects the parties and provides the auction details. Confirm the seller, price, payment route and transfer steps in writing. Follow the agreed payment provider’s instructions, complete the registrar or Nominet transfer, then confirm that the domain is in the buyer’s account. Keep the agreement and receipts.

What if something looks wrong?

Pause payment or transfer and contact hello@namebid.co.uk with the domain, auction reference and supporting evidence. For a formal complaint, use “Formal complaint” as the email subject. NameBid will acknowledge and investigate; payment-provider or registrar disputes must also follow that provider’s process.

Have a question before committing?

Email the domain name and your question. Ask for the settlement steps or listing clarification before making a payment.
